Project Description
Most of the rural populations in Pakistan don’t have latrine/ toilet facilities in their homes, and they go to the crop fields, hilly or wilderness areas for their daily nature’s call. Women specially wait for darkness in the evening or before dawn, because of cultural traditions. These practices are personal security risks and hazardous from health and sanitation point of view.

To avoid these dangerous practices it is proposed to construct Biogas community latrines in the Rural and Remote areas of Pakistan. The biogas latrines are specially recommended for the villages who want clean environment & need protection of their women.

The latrines will be constructed at two locations for women and men separately in each village. Moreover, bathrooms will also be constructed with latrines for the poor families in rural areas, who cannot afford these facilities in their homes. The project will facilitate poor communities in rural areas reducing dependence on indigenous natural gas and forest wood resources and would control pollution & greenhouse gas emissions to counter climate change & global warming for protection of environment for future generations.

Initially twenty thousand Bio Gas community latrines will be constructed as under:

Sindh Province   …………………………………………….   5000
Khyber Pakhtun Khawa Province   …………………   5000
Punjab Province   …………………………………………..   8000
Balochistan Province   ……………………………………   1000

The Bio Gas produced will be used for the community cooking in the villages where poor families can cook their food as is a common practice in many rural areas in Pakistan.

Any individual philanthropist, organization, or donor agency can sponsor a single site in any village of their choice located in Pakistan.
